The MTR Corporation on Monday said it will conduct a comprehensive review of all its engineering vehicles, following two incidents which disrupted train services on the East Rail Line.

On Sunday, there were delays on the line – that stretches from Admiralty to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau – after an engineering train malfunctioned near Fo Tan Station. A similar incident occurred in February near Tai Wo Station.

In a statement, the MTR said an investigation into the incident in February had been completed, and it is currently reviewing its contingency arrangements.

The railway giant said an in-depth investigation has been launched in response to Sunday's incident.

"In light of the recent incidents, the corporation will conduct a comprehensive review of the entire engineering vehicle fleet, including the design, maintenance, operational procedures, and emergency repair processes of the engineering vehicles," it said.

The MTR added it will seek professional advice from independent consultants, and fully cooperate with the government in a special audit.

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department earlier said it will initiate an audit to review the MTR's maintenance emergency preparedness concerning engineering trains.
