President Xi Jinping on Tuesday toured an AI incubator during his visit to Shanghai.
He called on the city to take the lead in AI development and governance.
The president's inspection trip came four days after China's leadership convened a dedicated AI study session, where he called for gaining a head start in this strategic sector.
"AI technology is evolving rapidly and entering a phase of explosive growth," said Xi, as he visited the Shanghai Foundation Model Innovation Center, a large model incubator home to over 100 enterprises.
Xi also visited the New Development Bank in Shanghai and met with its president, Dilma Rousseff, who's a former president of Brazil.
The New Development Bank is a multilateral development bank established by Brics countries, financing projects in developing nations. (Xinhua)
