A worker has died after falling from height at a construction site in Fanling at around 3pm Tuesday.
Police said the 62-year-old man was on a scaffold, when he fell from around the fifth or sixth floor of the industrial building on On Chuen Street.
He was pronounced dead at North District Hospital.
The Labour Department said the worker was hanging nylon nets on a bamboo scaffold on the building's external wall, when the accident happened.
"We commenced an immediate on-site investigation as soon as we were notified of the accident and have issued suspension notices to the contractors concerned, suspending the erection, alteration, dismantling and use of the bamboo scaffold on the external walls of the building," a spokesman said in a statement.
"The contractors cannot resume the work process until the LD is satisfied that suitable measures to abate the relevant risks have been taken."
The spokesman also reminded employers to provide workers with safety harnesses or install fall arresting systems, and ensure the equipment is used properly.
The Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims said it is offering emergency support to the man's family members.
