President Xi Jinping said on Thursday that China is ready to work with Russia to resolutely defend the rights and interests of the two nations as well as those of developing countries in face of unilateralism and bullying.

In talks with President Vladimir Putin during his state visit to Russia, Xi said relations between Beijing and Moscow "have grown more confident, stable and resilient in the new era," according to Xinhua News Agency.

Xi urged China and Russia to jointly promote the correct historical perspective on World War II, as well as an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation.

The president is among more than 20 foreign leaders attending a military parade in Russia on Friday marking 80 years since the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

Putin told Xi in their meeting in the Kremlin: "Together with our Chinese friends, we firmly stand on guard of historical truth, protect the memory of events of the war years and counter modern manifestations of neo-Nazism and militarism."

Xi also said China and Russia will safeguard the authority and status of the United Nations.

"Facing the countercurrent of unilateralism and bullying internationally, China will work with Russia to shoulder the special responsibilities as world powers and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council," he said.

"We should jointly promote the correct view of the history of World War II, safeguard the authority and status of the United Nations, resolutely defend the rights and interests of China, Russia and the vast majority of developing countries, and work together to promote an equal, orderly, multipolar and inclusive economic globalisation."

Xi added that the continuous development and deepening of China-Russia ties is the call of the times for safeguarding international fairness and justice, and promoting the reform of the global governance system. (Xinhua & agencies)
