Chief Executive John Lee said he is looking forward to his visit to Qatar and Kuwait, after arriving in Doha late on Saturday local time on his second official trip to the Middle East as Hong Kong's leader.
Speaking to reporters at a hotel in the Qatari capital, Lee said he would hold a quick meeting with his colleagues to prepare for a series of engagements on Sunday.
The CE was met at the airport by Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, director of protocol at the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and China's ambassador to Qatar, Cao Xiaolin.
More than 50 officials and business delegates from Hong Kong and the mainland are accompanying Lee.
Writing on his Facebook page, Lee said the delegation would sign memoranda of understanding and advance a number of projects.
"Hong Kong will sign multiple memoranda of understanding and advance various collaborative projects with both nations, spanning trade, aviation, research, legal services, education and more," he said.
The CE added that the delegation will seek to create business opportunities for Hong Kong firms, attract Middle Eastern capital to the SAR and better connect the two sides in industries such as finance, technology and engineering.
The delegation will also promote the Belt and Road initiative and business opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
