A plan to transform part of the Victoria Harbour shoreline could see an area stretching from Hung Hom to Kwun Tong become a space for water sports and outdoor concerts, the Urban Renewal Authority said on Sunday.
The authority previously launched a study on the creation of a "Victoria Cove Area", covering nearly 800 hectares of land and sea.
Initial proposals for developing the area included introducing water sports such as canoeing to a bay area near Kai Tak and adding floating platforms in waters off the area for performances, according to the authority's managing director Wai Chi-sing.
He said other suggestions focused on turning barges docked at a typhoon shelter in To Kwa Wan into a space for eateries and outdoor concerts, as well as using breakwaters as a site for displaying art installations.
"The proposals require detailed research and a series of impact assessments, as well as discussions with stakeholders including government departments and barge operators," Wai wrote in a blog.
The team behind the study is expected to report back to the authority in the latter half of this year, he added.
