The Hang Seng Index climbed 54 points, or 0.23 percent, to open at 23,736 points on Wednesday.

Mainland markets opened lower, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.01 percent at 3,380 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.03 percent lower at 10,246 points. (Xinhua)
