Three contractors involved in a concert by Mirror that ended in tragedy three years ago were on Friday found not guilty of wrongdoing in connection with the saga.

Two dancers were seriously injured when a giant LED screen came crashing down on top of them as they performed with the boyband at the Hong Kong Coliseum on July 28, 2022.

Project managers Ng Hoi-ying and Lam Chi-wah from Engineering Impact Limited and lighting designer Joseph Leung from Infinity Project Management were accused of knowingly submitting forms to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) that contained false information as to the weight of equipment on the concert stage.

All three pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to defraud.

Following a trial at the District Court, judge May Chung ruled that there were indeed significant errors in the weight declaration forms.

But she said a separate company employed to vet such forms was to blame for this, and there was no evidence to show that the three defendants knew the details to be false or that they deliberately deceived the LCSD in order to get approval for the Mirror concerts to go ahead.

"In light of the failure of the prosecution to prove the defendants had knowledge of the falsity of the representations in the loading tables, the prosecution has also failed to prove that a deceit had been practiced by them," Chung said.
