Hong Kong should position itself as a place to promote new technologies and products amid the shift towards sustainability, according to the city's environment minister.
Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan pointed to the rise of electric vehicles and the increasing use of hydrogen, saying there would be more products emerging as the SAR moves towards carbon neutrality.
He told RTHK's Overview Policy programme that the territory has to capitalise on opportunities brought by green transformation.
"Hong Kong, as a small city, may not have many opportunities in terms of large-scale production, but we can serve as a demonstration platform...to promote new technologies and products to the rest of the world," Tse said.
"Through trade and technical support, we can then drive our economic growth."
The city aims to halve carbon emissions by 2035 compared to 2005 levels, as a part of the broader goal to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050.
To achieve this goal, Tse said, the government is looking for Hong Kong to stop using coal and to import more zero-carbon energy from the mainland.
