The MTR Corporation on Wednesday said it expects the topping out of the future Kwu Tung Station to take place this year.
The station, located on the East Rail Line between Lok Ma Chau and Sheung Shui, will be the first on the Northern Link to open.
The company’s capital works director, Carl Devlin, said the platform and concourse slabs there have been completed.
“When we complete the structural works and top out later this year, there are significant building services, electrical mechanical works, railway systems that we need to install, integrate test and commission,” he said.
“We are working towards our [completion] target of 2027, and we will keep that in focus as we progress.”
Devlin said the MTR has been carrying out preparatory works for the Northern Link Main Line, after the government approved the project in April.
The company added that it has set up two digital delivery centres to monitor construction sites of railway projects in real time.
The centre can also monitor the safety of workers by keeping track of their locations using smart wearables.
