President Xi Jinping has arrived in Kazakhstan to attend the second China-Central Asia Summit.
The president landed in the Kazakh capital, Astana, on Monday afternoon.
He was welcomed by his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and other senior officials at the airport.
The two leaders later attended a ceremony exchanging cooperation documents.
Xi said China and Kazakhstan should practise true multilateralism and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
He also called on the two sides to promote connectivity, high-tech cooperation and green development.
Xi will hold bilateral meetings before the summit on Tuesday, according to Kazakhstan's presidency. The Foreign Ministry in Beijing said the meetings "will jointly outline a new blueprint for future cooperation".
The leaders of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan will also attend the China-Central Asia summit.
The trip is Xi's third overseas this year, following visits to Southeast Asia and Russia. (Xinhua/AFP)
