Former liaison office chief Zheng Yanxiong has been appointed to a senior role in the country's legislature, a month after leaving his previous post.
Zheng was named a vice chairman of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), according to a statement issued after a meeting of the NPC Standing Committee on Friday.
He was replaced by Zhou Ji as director of Beijing's liaison office in Hong Kong in May.
In July 2020, Zheng became the first chief of the Office for Safeguarding National Security.
In January 2023, he was appointed as director of the liaison office, succeeding Luo Huining. Zheng was also named the national security advisor to the Committee for Safeguarding National Security in the SAR.
