A sinkhole opened up in Kwai Chung on Saturday, trapping a medium goods vehicle and its driver.
Police said the incident took place just after 10.30 pm near the Lei Muk Shue Shopping Centre on Wo Yi Hop Road with the vehicle's front wheels getting stuck in the hole.
Police said the driver was briefly trapped before being rescued unharmed by firefighters.
Officers said preliminary investigations suggest that two underground water pipes had ruptured, causing the formation of a sinkhole measuring approximately 10-by-eight metres.
The Transport Department has closed the affected lanes with authorities estimating that repair work will continue until Tuesday.
Bus routes have also been affected.
