A Kowloon West constituency lawmaker said he hopes more community living rooms can be set up in Sham Shui Po to serve low-income families.
Scott Leung's comments came a day after the launch of the Sham Shui Po East community living room, the third such facility in the district and seventh in Hong Kong overall.
The government expects the 3,600-square-foot facility to serve at least 500 families living in subdivided units and attract 80,000 visits annually.
So far, 250 households have registered to use the facility.
Apart from amenities such as a dining room and shared kitchen, it also features a recreational area for children.
Speaking on an RTHK radio programme, Leung noted that the newly opened community living room is the largest among all three in Sham Shui Po.
"From what I know, demand and the number of participating families are very high. As Sham Shui Po has the second highest number of subdivided units in Hong Kong, the coverage of the three community living rooms is just enough (to meet demand)," he said.
But Leung also said the facilities might not be convenient for some residents who need to walk more than 15 minutes to get there.
Two more community living rooms, located in Sham Shui Po and Kowloon City, will be launched this quarter.
