RTHK on Tuesday kicked off an exhibition of vinyl records in Sha Tin, showcasing more than 140 items dating as far back as the 1930s.

The records cover a variety of genres, ranging from local and western pop to Chinese opera and classical music.

Works on display include records from the likes of Madonna and the late Elvis Presley, as well as local legends such as Sam Hui and Jacky Cheung, as well as the late Leslie Cheung and Danny Chan.

Visitors can also take photos posing as the singers on the record cover, and download a digital copy.

Director of Broadcasting Angelina Kwan said at the event's opening ceremony that Hong Kong is a cultural hub where East meets West.

She said RTHK has always promoted the development of arts and culture.

"We call on the public to pay a visit to the exhibition, to get a taste of Hong Kong's audio memories together," she said.

"You can also get to feel again the dreams of local musicians, and the youth and emotions of music fans."

Admission is free for the event at New Town Plaza that runs until July 9.
