China has announced a series of events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in September.

An evening gala will be held on September 3 in Beijing.

The event will be jointly organised by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the China Media Group, the Political Work Department of the China Military Commission and the Beijing municipal government, according to the State Council Information Office.

Officials also announced the opening of a themed exhibition on July 7 featuring thousands of photos and artefacts; an art exhibition to be held from August to September; and a series of performances featuring outstanding stage works to take place from August to October.

In addition, a series of TV dramas, documentaries and short dramas will soon be released to mark the anniversary.

Addressing the 13th World Peace Forum in Beijing, Vice President Han Zheng said China is an important force in injecting stability into the world amid rising geopolitical tensions.

"The great victory 80 years ago has brought the world lasting enlightenment. Peace was hard-won and must be defended. Peace and prosperity are the common aspirations of people of all countries," Han said.

"China, as a responsible country, is committed to being a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order." (Additional reporting by Xinhua)
