The Observatory on Saturday said the chance of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals was rather low.
It said tropical storm Danas was moving slowly over the north-eastern part of the South China Sea and that it would skirt around 400 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong for the rest of Saturday and Sunday morning.
The standby signal no.1 was issued on Friday.
The Observatory said unless Danas intensifies significantly and adopts a track closer to the Pearl River Estuary, there will not be strong winds generally over the territory.
