The University of Hong Kong on Tuesday introduced its new School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME), which will offer the institution's Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering.
SBME is supported by the faculties of medicine, engineering, dentistry and science.
Its director, Professor Michael Häusser, said the school is the first of its kind in Hong Kong, being a collaborative platform.
"We believe that SBME will become a global leader in shaping the future of healthcare through cutting-edge technologies and cross disciplinary innovation," he said.
Professor Kevin Tsia, programme director for the biomedical engineering degree, said the new school increases the resources available to students, in terms of both the curriculum and practical experience.
"Right now with the school established, we have a lot more formal channels to established truly inter-disciplinary training to the students," he said.
