The Commissioner for Belt and Road said on Wednesday that his office will continue to deepen engagements with the Asean market.
Nicholas Ho made the comments after leading a delegation in June to Indonesia and Malaysia, where 21 cooperation deals were signed with local government and industry representatives.
Trade between the SAR and Asean markets has been increasing through the years, he said, and Hong Kong can play its part by offering an integrated service platform in the Belt and Road Initiative that provides streamlined professional services to member countries and regions.
With a lot of small but beautiful projects, Ho said "the owners may not know how to package, design and structure them, to make them feasible and of high quality.
"We [Hong Kong] can help them with the design and find suitable financing plans.
"Our financial market is international. We are supported by the capital market, can also issue bonds, and also gain support from private funds and other financial products.
"This would allow projects to find their partners."
Ho said some projects Hong Kong can participate in are the relocation of Indonesia's capital from Jakarta to Nusantara, and the construction of a 665-kilometre railway in Malaysia that connects the east and west coasts of the country.
More visits to Asean, the Middle East and central Asia will be organised, he said, to assist Hong Kong companies to seek opportunities in the regions.
The SAR administration's plan to set up an Economic and Trade Office in Kuala Lumpur – its fourth within the Asean region – will help small and medium-sized enterprises find business in Asean and go international, Ho added.
