Temporary water pipes have been installed for two housing estates in Fanling after residents earlier found black particles in tap water which turned out to be residue of bitumen and resin.
The new pipes replaced the decommissioned water mains to help ensure water safety, the Water Supplies Department said.
In a social media post, the department said that around 200 officers were deployed on Saturday to connect the temporary water pipes to the existing water supply system.
The connection works were completed on time after overnight efforts.
Water supply to Queen’s Hill Estate and Shan Lai Court resumed at around 7am on Sunday.
The department received several reports from residents that the water appeared to be milky and turbid after the resumption, but said that it was normal.
Officials plan to replace the temporary pipes with permanent underground pipes by the end of the year.
