Secretary for Education Christine Choi said on Wednesday that a Tuen Mun secondary school has reported to her bureau an alleged incident in which its vice principal was said to have taken out a pair of scissors and requested that a student cut his own hair.

The student's father reportedly called the police.

Choi said the school has set up a crisis management team.

"I want to say that home-school cooperation is very important when it comes to teaching students well," she said.

"But as for communicating with parents, I think schools also need to step up their efforts in this regard.

"In this matter, no matter what the rules are, it is equally important to explain things clearly to parents and students."

Meanwhile, Choi described as an isolated incident in which a University of Hong Kong student used artificial intelligence software to generate indecent images of his fellow female students.

She said it's the responsibility of universities to nurture students' virtues and values.

Choi hopes tertiary institutions will step up their efforts in these aspects, given that AI is developing rapidly.

She also said she doesn't believe the incident will affect HKU's reputation, which is built through the generations.
