The Observatory said on Thursday a tropical cyclone will enter the South China Sea after moving past the Philippines.

According to the forecast track, it will head closer to Hong Kong at the weekend.

The Observatory said as of 10am on Thursday, a tropical depression over the east of the Philippines was moving towards northern Luzon at 22 kilometres per hour.

It was forecast to intensify gradually.

The Observatory said the local mercury will remain high in the coming days, with some squally showers.

There'll be more showers from Saturday onwards, it added, and the city will see thunderstorms as well from Sunday.
