The Observatory on Sunday said the Hurricane Signal Number 10 is expected to remain until early afternoon as winds associated with Typhoon Wipha battered Hong Kong. It advised people not to go outside and to stay away from exposed windows and doors.

The Home Affairs Department said it opened over 30 temporary shelters and that over 200 people had sought refuge.

At 10 am, the government's 1823 Call Centre and the Fire Services Department said they had received in total 85 reports of fallen trees. There have so far been no reports of landslides or flooding.

The Hospital Authority says two males have sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Departments at public hospitals during the typhoon period.

Overnight, the Observatory issued the Storm Signal No. 8 at 20 minutes past midnight before issuing the Increasing Gale Signal No. 9 at 7.20 am.
