The Observatory on Sunday said it would downgrade the typhoon warning signal for Wipha to Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 7.40pm, as local winds weakened progressively.
"Wipha is moving further away from Hong Kong. However, gale to storm force southeasterly winds are still affecting parts of the territory occasionally," the forecaster said.
"With local winds weakening progressively, the Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 7.40pm."
The No. 8 storm signal took effect at 4.10pm, replacing the No. 10 warning which was in force for almost seven hours.
