The government said on Monday the tendering process of two plots of land in the New Territories has been suspended, in a bid to speed up the development of the Northern Metropolis.

According to the Development Bureau, a 3-hectare site in Yuen Long will be handed over to the Hong Kong Science Park, to be incorporated into the Yuen Long Inno Park.

The other site, an 8-hectare plot in Hung Shui Kiu, will be included in a study by the bureau looking into the possibility of creating a 15-hectare industrial park to be operated and managed by a government-owned company.

The study is expected to be completed this year.

The two sites were put out to tender in 2024, and the tender deadline is Friday.

"After considering the opinions of the innovation and technology as well as the logistics sectors regarding the industrial layout of the area, and the government's plan for the Northern Metropolis, the government has decided to terminate the tendering process for the two plots of land," the Development Bureau said in a statement.

"In accordance with the government's development strategy, the two plots will be utilised in a more proactive manner to maximise their role in driving industrial development."
