National security police said they have charged an 18-year-old man with a sedition offence.

Officers said he was allegedly involved in writing seditious words inside the toilet of a commercial building on three occasions.

"The contents included provoking hatred, contempt or disaffection against the constitutional order and the executive, legislative or judicial authority of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), as well as inciting other person to do an act that does not comply with the law of the HKSAR, etc," national security police said in a statement.

Police laid a holding charge against the man arrested in Kowloon on Monday with one count of “doing with a seditious intention an act or acts that had a seditious intention” and three counts of criminal damage.

The suspect will appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.
