InvestHK head Alpha Lau said on Friday the ongoing military clashes between Thailand and Cambodia will not affect Hong Kong as the city continues its charm offensive to woo global businesses and investments.

Speaking on a radio show, Lau, director general of the government's investment promotion arm, said as conflicts as well as the tariff war rage around the world, the SAR must maintain its stable trade and business environment, which she said is a key factor to continue to attract businesses.

"Hong Kong's geographical location is right at the centre of the whole Asia, and when we are attracting businesses and investments from the Asean region, actually we will go to many of its member countries there," she said.

"So although some countries might have conflicts in the short term, it will not affect our efforts to continue to attract investments and businesses from major commercial cities and leading enterprises there."

Lau also said there's growing interest from foreign firms to set up shop in the Northern Metropolis, as more details are gradually unveiled by the government over the large-scale development project.

"Ever since this April and May, we have been seeing more companies, especially from the technological and innovation and logistics industries, as well as the tourism sector, showing interest in the Northern Metropolis," she said.

"So in the short term, we'll closely pay attention to the upcoming Policy Address which is set to be unveiled in September, and we'll keep on attracting businesses that are in line with the target development industries based on the new policies."
