The Observatory on Friday cancelled all rainstorm warnings at 9.10pm after it issued both the amber and red rainstorm signals earlier in the evening.
It issued the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 7.10pm before upgrading it to a Red Rainstorm Warning Signal half an hour later. At 8.40pm, the forecaster downgraded the red warning signal.
The Observatory said showers and thunderstorms triggered by high temperatures are affecting Guangdong.
It said on its webside that about 50 millimetres of rainfall had been recorded locally in the evening, adding that rainfall exceeded 90 millimetres over Sai Kung District.
There were also more than 2,900 strokes of cloud-to-ground lightning recorded within the SAR.
Squalls exceeding 90 kilometres per hour were recorded in Peng Chau at around 7.40pm.
