Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak on Saturday spoke of her bureau's plans for the second term of service for district care teams. She said the goal was to ensure smooth service, meet local needs, and offer comprehensive support.

On Friday, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau said the current care team service agreements would end between late September and mid-October. The bureau has prepared for the second term by evaluating their performance and use of resources.

Mak also said the number of care teams would increase to 455 from 452 to meet changing community needs.

"Our care team members are very devoted and dedicated to community service. They are all volunteers and they use their own time to serve the community," she said.

"Last week, during the time of the typhoon, our care team members also stood by at the shelters and in the districts to help our residents. So I think I expect that in the second term of our service, we can enhance and serve our community better."

Some changes include splitting the large area of Sha Ta in the North District into two sub-districts for better service. Additionally, Sheung Shui Rural (North District) and Hang Hau West (Sai Kung District) will each get a new team due to growing populations.

Mak stated that by the end of the second quarter, care teams had visited about 530,000 households, provided 76,000 instances of basic support services, and organised around 38,000 district activities.
