Police say a woman and her two young sons have been found dead in a Tsuen Wan hotel room, after her husband was suspected to have fallen from the building early on Sunday morning.
Police were called to the Panda Hotel at about 4.45am, where they found the man lying outside.
The 37-year-old was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital, where he was certified dead at around 5am.
Later, officers found the man’s 36-year-old wife and their two sons, aged three and six, with knife wounds in a room in the hotel. They were declared dead at the scene.
Police classified the case as murder-suicide.
At a press briefing, Assistant District Commander of Crime for Tsuen Wan, Ruby Lo, said the family of four had rented the hotel room since mid-May.
CCTV footage showed the family returning to the room at around 9pm on Saturday.
Lo said the family had no record of domestic violence and there were no signs of fighting in the room.
She said no suicide note was found, but the man had posted on social media that he was suffering from mental illness.
“Regarding the motivation, our investigation so far showed the man was not under financial pressure. He was also jobless, so we’ve ruled out these factors for now. We believe his motivation may be triggered by his mental illness,” Lo said.
