A 43-year-old man has been arrested for alleged involvement in an act that has a seditious intention and criminal intimidation.

National security police officers said the arrest was made in Fanling on Thursday after a number of media organisations filed complaints with the authorities in June over letters demanding they publish certain reports or risk having their offices set on fire.

Superintendent Chow Hok-yin said the reports revolved around a website that allegedly sold souvenirs to raise funds in support of people wanted for alleged national security offences as well as calls for foreign governments to impose sanctions on SAR officials and judges.

“During the investigation, we discovered that the website was hosted by an overseas service provider," Chow said.

Officers carried out further investigation based on the website’s content and located the suspect believed to have built the website.

Chow said officers also found computer files and images linked to the website, as well as a list of local media companies and office addresses.

The suspect is currently being detained for investigation.
