This year's Youth Arts Week will showcase the works of 1,150 student artists at galleries and performance spaces across the SAR.

It is the signature event of the 17th edition of the Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and will run until August 17.

The 1,150 student artists were nominated by 600 local primary, secondary and special needs schools.

One of the exhibits, "My Breath Diary", will see students perform on August 2 and 17 at the council's Showcase exhibition space, where audience members can roam around large-scale installations, including a field of glowing mushrooms and a tree containing a mirror kaleidoscope.

The work integrates props that react to sound. Students will also perform in front of an interactive projector to tell the story of a spirit's journey through a forest.

"The students worked on the mushroom lights, so it is made of very simple materials like toilets and also very simple paints," the council said in a statement.

"An LED light sensor is integrated in the mushroom light, so they learn how to make interactive props on their own."

Since the inception of the scheme, more than 18,000 student arts ambassadors have been chosen from primary, secondary and special schools.
