Torrential rain drenched parts of Hong Kong on Saturday resulting in the closure of several railway station entrances and the suspension of ferry services.
The black rainstorm warning signal was issued at 9.45 am, with the Observatory indicating that heavy downpours might continue. The Observatory later replaced the black alert with the red at 11.45 am, and then the amber at 12.30 pm.
"Locally, more than 70 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over many places in the past couple of hours, and around 100 millimetres of rainfall were even recorded over parts of Kowloon and Tsing Yi," the Observatory said.
The MTR closed various station entrances and exits as a precautionary measure against flooding. The affected stations included Choi Hung, Wong Tai Sin, and Sham Shui Po.
Coral Sea Ferry Services, which connect Kwun Tong, Sai Wan Ho, and Sam Ka Tsuen, were suspended. Trips operated by Tsui Wa Ferry Service were also affected.
The Drainage Services Department confirmed four reports of flooding as of 11.15 am, with over 110 emergency response terms deployed to inspect approximately 240 potential flooding hotspots.
The floods were found along North Lantau Highway, Tuen Mun Road, Tai Mong Tsai Road in Sai Kung, and the North West Tsing Yi Interchange.
"Floodwater levels at some lanes reached up to about 200 to 300 millimetres," the department said.
The department also sent workers and water pumps to clear flooding at several areas, including the Chai Wan Road roundabout that flooded during the rainstorm on Tuesday.
The Education Bureau announced that all schools would suspend classes in the afternoon.
"Schools which are in session should continue until the end of school hours. They should ensure that conditions are safe before allowing students to return home," the bureau said.
Beaches managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department were temporarily closed, and residents were advised not to visit country parks.
