The president of the Law Society of Hong Kong, Roden Tong, has encouraged young people in Hong Kong to make good use of their international perspectives and multilingual skills to create personal opportunities and boost the nation's legal competitiveness globally.

Tong made the remarks during a meeting with 30 students and representatives from the Hong Kong Joint School Foreign Affairs Association held on Saturday, when they discussed Hong Kong's role as an international legal and dispute resolution hub.

The event aims to foster students' interest in legal knowledge.

Tong emphasised that in today’s rapidly advancing technological era, lawyers must embrace innovation while preserving the agility and precision that define Hong Kong's legal practice.

The group also talked about the impact of artificial intelligence on the legal profession. Tong highlighted that while AI can improve efficiency and promote justice, it also presents ethical challenges and the potential for job displacement.

"Artificial intelligence presents both opportunities and challenges. While AI cannot replace human lawyers, those who fail to embrace AI may be left behind,” he said.

He offered assurances that the Law Society is committed to upholding strong ethical guidelines to help members navigate these changes.
