Health officials on Tuesday reported a new imported infection of chikungunya fever, bringing the total to six this year.
The latest case of the mosquito-borne disease involved a man, 31, who lives in Kwai Tsing District.
The Centre for Health Protection said the man travelled to Foshan in Guangdong province – where an outbreak was reported – from August 1 to 3, but that he did not recall being bitten by mosquitoes there.
He developed fever, rash and joint pain last Friday, several days after returning to Hong Kong.
The man travelled to Shenzhen over the weekend and sought medical help there before coming back to the city.
On Monday, he sought treatment at Yan Chai Hospital and is now in stable condition there.
The SAR has so far reported six imported chikungunya fever cases and one probable infection this year.
