A man who travelled to Foshan in Guangdong province earlier this month is Hong Kong's ninth imported case of chikungunya fever this year, according to the Centre for Health Protection.
Health officials said the man, 23, travelled to the city's Shunde District on August 1 and was bitten by mosquitoes there.
Thousands of cases of the mosquito-borne disease have been reported in Foshan.
He returned to the SAR two days later, and developed a fever, joint pain and a rash on August 8.
The man, who lives in Sai Kung District, sought treatment at the accident and emergency unit at Tseung Kwan O Hospital on Thursday.
He's now in stable condition at the hospital.
