Leaders from more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organisations will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 to be held in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin said on Friday.
This will be the fifth time that China has hosted the summit and the largest since the establishment of the organisation, he said at a press briefing.
President Xi Jinping will chair the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO and the "SCO Plus" Meeting and deliver keynote speeches, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
During the summit, Xi will host a welcome banquet and bilateral events for participating leaders, the spokesperson said.
Among the foreign leaders invited are Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Liu announced.
Heading the list of leaders of international organisations and multilateral mechanisms are United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his Asean counterpart Kao Kim Hourn. (Xinhua)
