Brazilian activists from the Alvorada Collective unfurled a banner at Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer monument on Saturday, protesting against what they described as unacceptable interference by the Trump administration in Brazil’s justice system and constitution.

Security personnel promptly asked the protesters to remove the banner, which read: “Trump, keep your hands off Brazil,” and the group complied without incident.

The brief demonstration, lasting about a minute, took place in front of hundreds of tourists visiting one of Rio’s most iconic landmarks.

The protest comes amid ongoing US involvement in Brazilian judicial affairs, specifically tensions over sanctions imposed by the Trump administration on Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

These sanctions are linked to his handling of former president Jair Bolsonaro’s trial, with diplomatic and legal efforts currently underway to resolve the situation. (Reuters)
