Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said the Saudi Super Cup final at Hong Kong Stadium showcased the city’s ability to host world-class sporting events.

She noted the Saudi Arabian Football Federation praised Hong Kong’s hospitality and may bring the tournament back.

With the government rolling out Muslim-friendly measures, Law said cooperation between Hong Kong and Middle Eastern countries “will only get better.”

This summer alone, top clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and four Saudi league teams attracted over 250,000 spectators.

Law described the matches as a great success, with fans enjoying themselves, and said more overseas teams would be invited in future.

She added that mega events have boosted tourism, with more than 200,000 visitors coming on each of the past two weekends despite storms and rain warnings.

“Beyond football, we’ve had plenty of big events across the city this summer. Even though August brought unstable weather — with tropical storms and black rain warnings — visitors still came to Hong Kong to join in these major events,” she said.

Law also highlighted the wider economic impact, noting that sales at Kai Tak Sports Park's retail outlets last month were more than 20 percent higher than at its March opening, reflecting strong business growth.
