Police are investigating a suspected murder and attempted suicide case, after a man was found unconscious inside a flat with his two young children.

The two children, aged eight and three respectively, later died in hospital.

Officers said they received a report from a woman on Wednesday afternoon, claiming that she was unable to get in touch with her husband and son.

The woman added that she was concerned because her family's flat in Kam Wah Building in Yau Ma Tei was locked from the inside.

Officers said firefighters broke into the unit and found three people unconscious, including a 40-year-old man, his eight-year-old son and three-year-old daughter.

The two children were pronounced dead at Kwong Wah Hospital, while the man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

Following their initial investigation, police have reclassified the case as murder and attempted suicide.
