The government on Friday confirmed that an off-duty police officer suspected of being in a scam farm is currently located in Cambodia.
Earlier this week, various local newspapers reported that the officer had called Hong Kong authorities for help, saying he was taken to the Southeast Asia country unwillingly.
In response to media enquiries, a government spokesman said police had managed to contact the officer and will send staff to Cambodia to offer help and learn more about the incident.
The spokesperson added that the Immigration Department also received a call for help, and has since reached out to the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong as well as the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia for assistance.
