President Xi Jinping on Thursday met with visiting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Beijing.
The meeting at the Great Hall of the People came a day after Kim and a group of foreign leaders attended China's V-Day commemorations.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Xi told Kim that China and North Korea "are good neighbours, good friends and good comrades who share a common destiny and stand by each other".
The president added that Kim's presence at commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War demonstrated Pyongyang's resolve to safeguard the outcomes of the victory in World War II.
Xi said that also provided an important opportunity for the Communist Party of China and the Workers' Party of Korea, and for the two countries, to further develop friendly and cooperative relations.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a regular briefing earlier in the day that the two leaders would conduct in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern in their meeting.
It's the first visit to China by the North Korean leader in six years.
President Xi also held bilateral meetings with other visiting foreign leaders on Thursday, among them his Vietnamese counterpart Luong Cuong and Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel, stressing efforts to promote peace and multilateralism. (Agencies)
