The Airport Authority said it is expecting about 100 flights to be cancelled on Monday while other passengers saw their flights delayed.

A man surnamed Chan who was flying to Osaka said his flight was delayed by about 40 minutes.

"I was originally planning to arrive at the airport one-and-a-half hour ahead of my flight, now I'm almost three hours ahead. The delay was okay, not too long... My hotel booking is not refundable, so I have to come to the airport no matter what," he said.

Another passenger, surnamed Li, who was returning to Taipei, said his flight was delayed for 30 minutes and he thinks that's acceptable.

The Airport Authority said 40 flights landed at Chek Lap Kok between midnight and 4.30am on Monday under the T8 signal, and operations were smooth with additional Airport Express trains running until 1.30am.

It said about 200 passengers were waiting for taxis after the last train departed and they all managed to leave the airport before 4am.
