A major fireworks display will light up Victoria Harbour on October 1 to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Themed "Victoria Harbour Fireworks Shine Across the Motherland”, the 23-minute show on October 1 will feature over 30,000 fireworks.

The event's sponsor, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), said the extravaganza will pay tribute to local culture and highlight the accomplishments of the motherland.

"We would like to be closer to the residents of Hong Kong. Therefore, this time, we will promote the pandas, especially the two pandas born in Hong Kong," Jonathan Choi, chairman of the CGCC, said.

"Secondly, Nezha is also very interesting because of the animation. Therefore, we are promoting the animation and the technology so that the young people will love Nezha and also pandas."

Choi added that other segments in the show will highlight the country's aerospace achievements and the upcoming National Games in November.
