Mainland stocks had lacklustre mixed openings on Friday while Hong Kong was much more in line with Wall Street's strong overnight finish.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index gained 453 points, or 1.74 percent, to open at 26,539.
On the mainland, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.01 percent to open at 3,875.
The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.3 percent lower at 12,941.
In Japan, the Nikkei share average hit a record high, but the gains were limited as the market turned cautious about the Wall Street rally.
The Nikkei rose 0.7 percent to 44,668 by mid-morning after gaining up to 1.16 percent to a record intraday high of 44,888 earlier in the session. It opened trading at 44,803, up 430 points, or 0.97 percent.
For the week, the index is set to rise 3.8 percent.
The broader Topix rose 0.35 percent to 3,158 and headed for a 1.7 percent weekly gain.
In Seoul, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index opened at 3,374, up 30.45 points, or 0.91 percent. (Reuters/Xinhua)
