Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai has called on voters of the Legislative Assembly election to choose responsible lawmakers to represent their views.
His remark came as the city holds the eighth election of its legislature on Sunday to pick 14 directly elected members and 12 indirectly elected members.
Over 328,000 voters in Macau can vote at 38 direct-election polling stations and five stations for indirect election between 9am and 9pm.
Sam, who cast his ballot in the morning, said the voting procedure was smooth, adding that most people were able to complete the voting process within 20 minutes.
The SAR revised the Legislative Assembly Election Law last year to reinforce the principle of “patriots governing Macau”, and the newly-elected lawmakers will bear important political and legal responsibilities, he said.
Sam urged voters to exercise their power granted by the law and actively participate in the electoral process.
