Health authorities on Friday reported two new imported cases of chikungunya fever, with both patients having recently travelled to Foshan in Guangdong province.

According to the Centre for Health Protection, one of the patients is a 62-year-old woman who lives in Kowloon City District.

She began her visit to Foshan from August 26.

The woman developed joint pain on Monday and then a fever and a rash two days later when she returned to Hong Kong.

She sought treatment at a clinic on Thursday.

The other case involves a 26-year-old man living in Central and Western District.

Health officials said he was in Guangzhou between last Friday and Wednesday, during which he made two day trips to Foshan.

He developed a fever, a rash and joint pain on Tuesday, and sought treatment at Queen Mary Hospital two days later.

Both patients are said to be in stable condition.

Hong Kong has recorded 21 cases of chikungunya fever so far this year.
