Many people were able to get off work early on Tuesday, with MTR services increased to coincide with the observatory issuing the number eight typhoon signal.

At Admiralty Station, a woman surnamed Keung said she rushed to the supermarket to stock up on supplies ahead of the storm.

“I've bought some cup noodles and canned sardines. My family has also bought some food so we should be fine,” Keung said.

“Yes, we’re worried about the typhoon as people say it's powerful. Our company also allowed us to get off work earlier so I think it's alright.”

Another woman, Sherry, said she was nervous about the super typhoon and has taped up the windows of her home just in case.

“The wind was really heavy during Super Typhoon Mangkhut so I am also worried this time. The news in Hong Kong and the mainland also said this storm is powerful and told people to prepare three days' worth of food and water, which makes me really nervous,” she said.

Sherry said she started buying extra food from Sunday.

KMB, Long Win Bus, and Citybus said services on most of their routes would be suspended by around 4.20pm.

MTR bosses said railway services were expected to continue operating during the signal 8, but a higher warning signal would mean trains stop running on outdoor sections of the various lines.
