MTR officials on Wednesday said it would take them until the evening to get the whole rail network up and running again following the departure of Super Typhoon Ragasa.

By 6pm, services were running along the entirety of almost every line, albeit at reduced intervals of between 10 and 20 minutes.

But the East Rail Line, other than the stretch between Admiralty and Kowloon Tong, and some Light Rail routes were still closed as safety checks were being carried out.

"Due to the longer stretches of open track, full service on the East Rail Line including cross-boundary sections and Light Rail, is expected to take quite a long time to resume," the rail company said.

It added that the line between Tai Po Station and Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau, as well as several Light Rail tracks in Tuen Mun, had been affected by fallen trees and damaged overhead cables.

Services in these areas were expected to resume after dusk, the company said.
