The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong has slammed a US State Department report on the SAR's investment environment.
The office criticised the report for slandering the city's security laws and painting a grim picture of the business environment here.
A spokesman called on the US to respect Hong Kong's rule of law and stop interfering in its affairs.
The SAR government also condemned the US report.
"Hong Kong continues to shine and rise in various international competitiveness rankings on economic freedom, finance, innovation and technology, education and talent," a spokesman said in a statement.
"Amid the intensifying geopolitical tensions, and rising unilateralism and protectionism that disrupt the international trade system and global economic order, Hong Kong will, as always, continue to steadfastly uphold its status as a free port under the 'one country, two systems' principle," he added.
